By Jonzi D and Bim Ajadi
HERE/NOT HERE is a deaf hip hop music drama created by director Bim Ajadi and written by Jonzi D. It combines elements of dance, especially Krump and hip hop, with football, sign language and Visual Vernacular – a poetic and choreographic form of sign language.
The setting is a run-down ‘meantime’ space that three different groups – the footballers, the Krumpers and the VVers – all think of as their own. The story is about how we are all ‘in the middle’ of something, be that our ethnicity, hearing, age or any other label. HERE/NOT HERE is urban, funky, funny and thought provoking and is aimed at both hearing and deaf audiences. The film was written by Jonzi D (Artistic Director, Breakin’ Convention UK), directed by Bim Ajadi and created in collaboration with the deaf and hearing cast.
