At Lyrici Arts, our vision is to bring change to Medway to champion difference, so that it is a place where Black-led arts are flourishing with every resident able to embrace and feel empowered by culture.

A place where Black and diverse audiences are represented via the arts which are programmed in the area. A place where Black and diverse artists can live and obtain opportunities to make work.

The importance of community

Medway is our home, and we are excited and eager to contribute to its cultural regeneration, allowing people to fully participate in creative activities where they live. We are proud to work with trustees, employees, artists and audiences who reflect the cultural and social diversity of Medway.  We believe that everybody in communities should have access to high quality arts and that the arts should reflect people and their lives. Feeling connected to the arts means that every individual person in our community is able to embrace culture and feel empowered.

changing medway

We will achieve this by bringing high quality theatre into Medway. We want theatre to be the hub of the community, and a space where every single person is included. Because our local community is important to us.  As a dynamic and creative company developing a thriving programme of diverse theatre in Medway theatres, community sites, colleges and libraries, we are reaching new audiences. We know that art changes lives, and we want Lyrici Arts to have a positive impact on Medway residents’ mental health and wellbeing, as well as enhance community cohesion. Our community and outreach programmes have had success in doing just that, and we want to build and grow our work in the local area and beyond.

inspiring

We want to use black lyrical theatre to inspire and uplift the community. Often people feel the theatre is not for them. It has a reputation as being elitist. But we enable them to see that theatre is for everyone, and they are welcome. Stories are the woven threads of our lives, and we want to enable the many threads of Medway to come together in a rich fabric that reflects the people and places that make Medway such an amazing place to live.

learning and sharing

Medway is a place with bold visions, and we want to contribute to its regeneration as a creative hub with a high level of artistic opportunities. We are part of a network within  the South East’s arts industry, local authorities, cultural entrepreneurs, libraries, artists and community organisations and we document and share our learnings and best practice.

reputation for excellence

We aspire to have a national reputation as a model of best practice in diversity and inclusion in the arts. We want to support Medway artists and creatives in their careers, with Lyrici’s activity being part of a progression route to present work across the country.
